Peer Review for Home Inspectors
The Peer Review process is designed for home inspectors to validate and improve their inspection and communication skills, ensuring competency in fundamental services for consumers and meeting state licensing requirements. Inspectors seeking Home Inspector Plus status must complete Peer Review and Defect Recognition classes as part of the advancement process.
The Peer Review consists of three key components:
The applicant conducts an actual home inspection on a pre-selected dwelling, using their standard methods and tools.
After the inspection, the applicant presents their findings to an examiner, demonstrating 70% accuracy in identifying major deficiencies and showcasing strong technical knowledge and communication skills.
The applicant submits a detailed home inspection report within 48 hours, demonstrating their reporting skills.
Development Process
The Peer Review is built on a structured process that includes a Job Task Analysis aligned with Ohio’s Standards of Practice and a Peer Review Committee of seasoned inspectors to evaluate applicants.
Demonstrating Competency
This skills-based exam ensures that home inspectors possess the necessary knowledge and practical abilities to perform day-to-day tasks in the field, with a focus on inspection and reporting skills.
